and Savior was a common refrain on the Country Music Awards last night. After the 3rd or 4th one thanking L&S, I turned it off. Too bad there wasn't anything else on.
Tonight will be better: Antiques Roadshow and Dancing with the Stars.
AND the shed will be delivered Wednesday afternoon!!!!!

Delivery soon
So on Monday I called -- that is, I tried to call -- the Dispatcher guy to schedule delivery of the shed. Totally messed up phone system. Then I called the dealer here. He called down there (in SC somewhere) and found out the dispatcher guy had moved his office and his phones hadn't been hooked up properly yet.
Anyhow, the upshot is that the shed is ready but because of the bad weather we're having (lots and lots of rain, possible flash floods, etc), they won't come until next week. Looks like next Wed. is the first dry day.
They'll call me soon and we'll discuss the actual mechanics of getting it in here.
I did get the RV out last Fri. while the guys were taking down the tree. It got inspected (passed), aired up the tires and the airbags. When they went to take it out of the bay, it wouldn't start (does everybody remember that intermittent starting problem from before?). They said they "thought" they'd fixed it sort of.
So I went off to do a dump/flush and when I wanted to leave, it wouldn't start. I called them and they came and banged on the started, which made the contacts connect, and it started. Back to the garage for a new starter. Fortunately, the bad one was still under warranty so I only got charged for labor ( which I think the starter mfg should have to pay). We'll see how long this lasts.
I am, however, planning on selling the rig as soon as the shed is electrified (heh). I mentioned it casually on a Calif. friend's FB page and some person out there bid for it. My friend said maybe she'd fly back here (she used to work for me at DBN) and drive it back to CA. Lots of other people have expressed interest, too, so I shouldn't have too much trouble selling it. Let's hope.
I'm now researching ways to get up to lofts.

Getting Ready
I scored a very nice couch for $100 -- blue corduroy 6ft sleeper sofa, double, Serta mattress, Rowe brand (solid wood). This will be my main sitting area in the "studio" and can be my bed if I don't feel like going up to the loft (ie. in the summer). Also got two oil room heaters -- one will go to my rental property.
Speaking of the rental property: I have sent a letter to my tenant saying I'm not renewing his lease and he has to be out by the end of this month. He's way behind on his rent, always says if I'll just work with him he'll get caught up but he hasn't. His dog destroyed two window blinds the first day he moved in a year ago and, even though he promised, he hasn't replaced them yet. I don't expect to get my back rent paid but I can get someone in who'll pay on time and in full.
Speaking of whom, an old friend of Amy's has been living in her basement for the winter and we've persuaded him he needs to live in town instead of out on his land in the boonies in a chicken coop. So he's thinking of renting from me. He's disabled and get enough money to afford it.
Yesterday, I had a tree guy come to cut off limbs on the weeping cherry tree that were hanging over the phone/cable lines on the little side street, and that would also impede the shed delivery guy (they need 14'6" vertical height to bring the shed in on a forklift). The tree guy also noted a tree that has fire blight that needs to come down, and it's right next to my car park area. He's going to take it down this coming Friday, which will also open up the area the shed/forklift can use.
Next Monday I get to call the shed Dispatcher guy to schedule the actual delivery. And I need to talk to him and the driver about where to park the semi/flatbed and how to get the shed in here. They certainly can't bring the flatbed down the little side street (which is basically a one-lane street that used to be an alley). So he's going to have to park on Virginia near the Y intersection, take the shed off with the forklift, and bring it down the side street that way.
I think I'm as ready as I can be. Of course, I have to move the RV and my car but that's no big deal. Let's hope it all goes smoothly.

The Actual Slab
So here are some pix of the poured slab. First is property line to street, showing car parking (see RV to left).

The Slab
Prep for the slab is done (as is the slab but no pic yet). My concrete guy, Lance Graves (is that a cool name or what), brought in a backhoe and scraped the space clean of dirt to a depth of 8 inches, then poured gravel 4 inches deep, and put up the forms for pouring the slab itself. Here's a pic:
This is looking across the one-lane street; the narrow portion is where I park my car. Oops, I see the forms aren't up yet. Well, you get the idea. I'll try to get a pic of the slab itself and put it up -- Lance did a broom finish for traction (one foot will be open as a step) and a 3/4 inch slope from front to back for runoff (left to right in pic); he also put a bullnose edge on the end near parking for smoothness.
I ordered the shed/studio Monday. It's made of pressure-treated wood and will have a red metal gambrel roof with a double barn door on one side (the left in the pic above). I'll only use one side (3ft wide) which will gain me some wall space on the inside. It's under construction right now and will be delivered in about four weeks. Then comes electrical work, which will have to be inspected, and that should be the last I have to deal with the City (yay!).
